Volunteers Needed!
In order for our school to be the best, we
need your help. We need carpenters, welders,
go-getters, etc. to help complete our projects. If
you can hold a paint brush, till a garden, pick up trash,
bring snacks to our workers, etc. - YOU QUALIFY!
We need volunteers to assemble and install new
playground equipment, build barbeque grills, plant trees,
put up fencing, paint our concession stand, repair stadium seating
and benches, build chicken coops and animal housing,
solicit donations from individuals and businesses...
Please call or drop by.
We made significant gains in our Benchmark scores
this year in both literacy and math.
In fact, our 6th grade literacy scores
averaged above the district, region, & state!

Another Grant!!
We just received a grant for $10,000
($5,000 per semester) from the Arkansas
Department of Education. This grant will
help pay for the asphalt for our
Community Walking Track.
Construction will begin on the walking track
the first week in August.
Pond Construction
Wayne Ford and his dad, Wallace, have our
pond well under way. The pond will be between
1.5 & 2 acres...it's HUGE. This pond will be used for our
HOFNOD (Hooked on Fishing, Not on Drugs) program.
Students will be taught methods for stocking the pond,
upkeep and maintenance, and fishing skills through
Arkansas Game and Fish. We will also teach water
safety, boating, and canoeing.
The pond will be completely fenced in for
safety purposes.
This will become part of our Schoolyard Habitat
and will be incorporated into all curriculum areas.
We encourage parents, grandparents, and
community members to volunteer and become
a part of our outdoor classroom experiences.
Coordinated School Health (CSH)
Wellness Center Initiative Grant!
Union Academy has received $175,000 to begin the
first phase of establishing our Wellness Center.
We are about to begin remodeling one of
our buildings to establish medical offices, exam
rooms, a counseling center, lab, etc.
A full time RN or Nurse Practitioner,
a Mental Health Professional
and receptionist will be hired
to provide FREE services
for Union's staff, students, and their families.
Funds will continue the following years as
more services are added. This is a HUGE
Success for our school and district!!

The Garden Club works with Mr. Bounds and Mrs. Brown on Club Day
to prepare flowers for the summer.
Join us for voluntary "Prayer at the Pole"
Wednesday mornings at 7:45 when
school is in session.
Bro. Sam Whitlow from Harmony Baptist Church prays for our nation, Union Academy, our students and their families, our staff, and the Union community as a whole.
********************************************************* Fitness Center Grand Opening
The grand opening of Union's Family Fitness Center
and movie room was held on
Thursday, May 20 at 1:30 p.m.
Senator Gene Jeffress and
State Representative Garry Smith, along with
other distinguished guests and community members,
joined our "Union Family" for the celebration.
Union's Fitness Center will be free for our students
and their immediate families (this includes
grandparents)! Patrons and Friends of
Union Academy who donate their time and/or
resources will also have free membership. (This
could include something as simple as listening
to a child read on a regular basis.) If
you have a K-6 child, he or she must be enrolled
in Union Academy for access.

After months of anxiously awaiting for Dottie to have her baby, she
finally delivered a healthy little boy on May 2nd. Ava Dunn moves in
to give "Cyclone" a kiss as mom lovingly approves.

On April 9, we were presented with a check
for $3,000 from Arkansas Game
and Fish Commission to begin the first
stages of a Schoolyard Habitat. We will use
these funds toward building a pond,
small bridge, and planting beautiful
trees and plants on the acreage behind
the school. Our goal is to continue until
we have developed an extended outdoor
classroom, complete with a gazebo.
Arkansas Game and Fish has also awarded us
a grant to purchase our own class set of archery
equipment including bows, arrows, and targets.

Miss Piggy (Union's Pot Belly Pig) delivered
9 little piglets on Friday. 2/19. Every student was
able to experience this miracle as it happened.

Ava Dunn (2nd grade) is proud to announce
the addition of her sister,
Maryn Margaret Dunn (K class of 2015) as a
future member of our Union Family!

PRIDE trip to Hot Springs...
Our kids did an incredible job at the
Arkansas Pride Youth Conference.
Union has the only elementary/middle school
PRIDE team in the state. After our kids
sang, they received a standing ovation!

We promote drug-free, healthy lifestyles,
where our students are trained to be leaders
and mentors for others.

Union's PRIDE team recently performed for
Delta Kappa Gamma, Strong High School,
and at the Municipal Auditorium.
To make our PRIDE team even more exciting,
we have purchased Fender electric guitars,
a full-size Yamaha keyboard, and a
Pearl drumset in order to form a
PRIDE Stage Band for 2010/2011.

 Union Academy receives $17,000 Grant!
Union Academy has been awarded with the
Arkansas Child Wellness Intervention Project Grant!!
This grant will provide us with SPARKS curriculum
and the required equipment and training to give our
students 120 minutes of physical and health education
weekly.
On March 11, the governor and his wife presented
us with our check at the State Capitol!
